High Temperature Reliability
The use of electronics systems within areas like oil-well instrumentation, sub-sea, space or medical instrumentation puts large demands on the system reliability. To understand how different failure mechanisms influence the reliability, the system must be tested under realistic conditions, and thereafter characterised thoroughly.
SINTEF focuses on development of reliable electronics for harsh environments. We are equipped to perform test programs where the electronic system is subjected to conditions like high temperatures, thermal cycling, high pressure and vibrations. We use equipment like light and electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography to perform this characterisation.
SINTEF also maintains a number of high temperature test ovens and environmental reliability equipment to support packaging applications. Temperature cycling, temperature shock, thermal aging, and bump and die shear are available, as well as facilities to perform failure mode analysis.
