The overall objective of the project is to develop a new set of ultrasonic transducers and its associated electronics, in a miniaturized package, with the capability of electronic beam scanning and beam focusing, and operating in most oil wells with heavy drilling mud.

A demonstrator will be produced to prove the functionality of this device and its capability to operate under harsh environment constraints in terms of temperature and pressure (~ 175° C and 1,400 bars).

The technology developed will be compatible with industrial fabrication process for further production in volume.Targeted applications of the project are oil and gas wells but this technology will also directly benefit:

• The  water distribution business for leak/wear detection
• The  gas distribution business for leak/wear detection
• Manufacturing plants for the food industry for piping leak/wear detection
• Medical and sub sea acoustic domains
