These research activities span a diverse set of sensors, instrumentation, embedded systems and control with application of advanced control system and the construction of novel instrumentation systems.  Much of the research is with wide applicability across various sectors of industry but particular for harsh environments applications.

The activities include design of sensors for demanding applications and combine multi disciplinary research competencies such as measurement technology, sensor fusion, embedded µ-controllers, packaging, mechanical design and advanced cooling. 

The main focus of SINTEFs research activities are:

• Reliability and robustness – autonomous use;
• Miniaturisation, power efficiency;
• Cost reduction;
• Harsh environments e.g. high temperature, radiation tolerant.
