Automatic speech recognition gives a unique opportunity for control of small mobile devices without a keyboard. This is particularly important when the user is busy with other tasks, and thus does not want to use her hands to operate the mobile terminal. It is also possible for the user to operate the device by voice even though her eyes might be busy with the primary task.

SINTEF develops applications that allow hands-free and eyes-free use of mobile devices in noisy environments, by combining our competence in communication in noisy environments with speech technology.

We also develop automatic speech recognition for use in other applications, such as speech-centric dialogue systems, subtitling of live TV programs and large vocabulary speech recognition for Norwegian.
