Industry
There is great potential for energy efficiency measures in industry, which could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Fifteen percent of the world’s electricity production is used for heat-pumping systems << er dette egentlig “heat-distribution systems” ??
- The Norwegian aluminium industry uses around 34 terawatt hours a year, of which about 18 TWh are emitted in the form of waste heat
- In the USA, around 125 TWh waste heat is released annually
- In 2005, Norske Skog Skogn used about 1.45 TWh of electrical energy.
Work being done at SINTEF has the following goals:
- To develop energy-efficient technologies for the process industry
- To develop next-generation technology for refrigeration and waste heat utilisation
- To initiate and develop new technology that could reduce Norwegian energy consumption by 15 TWh a year by 2020.
