Water Mist

Water mist is tiny droplets spread in the air as mist. 90 % of the droplets have diameter less than 1 mm.

Water Mist extinguishing testThe micro-droplets in the water mist are drifting with the air for a while and will also be dragged into the fire area. When water mist meet flames and evaporate, the cooling effect of the water will be utilized. When the droplets evaporate they expand approximately 1700 times, displaces oxygen and combustion products in the combustion zone so that flames will be suffocated.

Water Mist systems were early on developed for the offshore industry as an alternative to hanon, and are often used in the marine sector.
Water mist as extinguishant has the advantage that it uses small amount of water. That is why water mist is considered to be suitable for buildings of high cultural monument value. The technology is suitable for installation in old buildings because a water mist system easily may be attached to existing pipeline network.

Water mist is suitable for automatic extinguishing systems which releases when a fire breaks out. In sheltered housing where people are unable to escape without help from others,  water mist is regarded as a good alternative to other safety measures because it fight  the fire and create conditions which is possible to survive in the first critical period.
