Marine Equipment Directive (MED):
SINTEF NBL (Norwegian Fire Research Laboratory) offers testing, certification and inspection to label products used for fire protection with the Wheel Mark.

Notified Body No. 1084
SINTEF NBL, Norwegian Fire Research Laboratory, is appointed by the national authorities as a notified body to undertake conformity assessment for marine equipment related to fire protection.
The Marine Equipment Directive 96/98/EC as amended require the Mark of Conformity, a ship wheel. The Directive is mandatory within the EEA member states for all new and existing ships since issued in 1997.
SINTEF NBL can as a notified body offer testing, conformity assessment and follow-up services with factory inspection. Being able to offer the complete set of services in order to obtain the Certificate of Conformity, SINTEF NBL will guide you through the requirements to be fulfilled to be able to use the mark of conformity (the ship wheel).
SINTEF NBL has long experience in testing of products for the ship industry based on IMO and SOLAS requirements and possess accreditation for both testing and inspection for all relevant methods.
SINTEF NBL is notified for Module B, D, E and F with identification No. 1084.
The figure shows the different modules within the Marine Equipment Directive.
The manufacturers may choose alternative modules for attestation leading to the wheel mark, depending on the limitations set for each type of equipment as given in Annex A.1 in the Directive.
