Research and Development


Some offshore fields are situated so distant from their customers that their gas cannot be brought to market by pipeline. However, through their research on LNG technology, SINTEF and NTNU have helped make gas reserves in the Snøhvit field worth exploiting, in spite of the great distances involved.

  • SINTEF has established a Centre for Railway Certification ("Senter for Jernbanesertifisering" - SJS). SJS was appointed as Notified Body (NB) for all sub-systems under council directives 96/48/EC  and 2001/16/EF on the interoperability of the trans-European high-speed rail system and conventional rail systems. The appoinment for all sub-systems took place Feb.6, 2007.

  • SINTEF Petroleum Research has participated in the Statoil UBD project. Persons now in SINTEF Petroleum Research were involved from the very start of the project in dynamic and steady state modeling of the operation. Read about the Gullfaks Underbalanced Drilling Project.
