Trondheim hosts world’s leading surgeons.
Researchers at SINTEF, NTNU and St. Olav’s Hospital have succeeded in attracting almost 300 of the world’s most respected surgeons, engineers and researchers in the field of medical technology to Trondheim from 2 to 4 September. World-class medical technological advances form the main attraction.

There is no shortage of technological treats on offer:
Delegates will be able to view demonstrations of a robot pill, which with the aid of cameras can detect bowel cancer and carry out minor surgical procedures.
There will also be several interesting talks, including those on medical aid projects both in war zones (Erik Fosse on Gaza), and during major natural disasters (Brynjulf Ystgaard on Haiti).
There will also be live video streams of new and ground-breaking cardiac surgery, an introduction to the potential of nanomedicine, and the latest in keyhole surgery and medical imaging diagnostics using ultrasound and MR. The latter is a field in which the research community in Trondheim is a world leader as a result of its close collaboration with technologists and clinicians.
The programme also includes a guided tour of the operating theatre of the future at St. Olav’s Hospital/NTNU.
The International Conference of the Society for Medical Innovation and Technology will be arranged for the 22nd time, and will be opened at the new Øya Health Centre in Trondheim.
